Job Vacancy at The Bicycle Academy

We are looking for someone to join the team as a full time Commercial Manager to drive and execute our ambitious plans!  The Bicycle Academy is an award-winning business working within the bespoke and low volume bicycle manufacturing sector. This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, highly motivated, team of people that love what they do. With six specialised employees, working across four business departments (Education & Experiences, Design & Development, Retail and Operations), we are now looking to build a dedicated management team to enable the business to thrive.  The Bicycle Academy (TBA) was founded in December 2011 after a successful crowdfunding campaign. The Bicycle Academy X Komoot - Gravel Social

In September 2019 we teamed up with route planning experts at Komoot to host an exciting 75km off road/adventure social ride followed by a chance for participants to see inside the TBA workshop.  We spent the day exploring beautiful forest fire roads and single track - with a little bit of tarmac - before heading back to our workshop for coffee (courtesy of Roundhill Roastery), snacks and a little bit of brazing. The route began at The Bicycle Academy workshop and included a really varied mix of terrain, you can download the route from our Komoot page although we recommend taking a pretty capable bicycle. A cyclocross bike, gravel bike or hardtail MTB would be perfect.  We were extremely lucky...

The Bicycle Academy at Grinduro Scotland 2019

And now here they are! The most daredevil group of daffy frame builders to ever whirl their wheels in the WACKY RACES. Competing for the title of Grinduro’s wackiest frame builder. The bikes are approaching the starting line.  First, is the TBA GXC driven by Tom Sturdy. Next is paratrooper Will Barcode on the TBA Splat Grav. Flying through the air is the Rad Roamer piloted by Ted James. Maneuvering for position is Andy Carr on the Spoon Customs Fat Tracker and right on his tail is Pi Manson on his Caledonian Carrier. Sneaking along last is the unmistakable Petor of Dear Susan Bicycles riding his award winning ‘Mike Rotch’..."Grav, Grav. And double Grav!" There’s no escaping it. The line-up...

Bespoked 2020 on the Horizon

It’s not long until the list of exhibitors for Bespoked - The UK's Handmade Bicycle Show 2020 is released but we can confirm that, as usual, we will be in attendance. The show is a real annual landmark for TBA and its gives us an opportunity to catch up with some of our favourite people from the frame building community, many of whom have studied frame building courses or skills masterclasses at The Bicycle Academy. We are proud to see our former students proving themselves to be fully fledged frame builders. The good folks at Bespoked have this to say:“Bespoked is Europe’s biggest showcase of handmade bicycles and their makers, attracting in excess of 6000 visitors from around the world....

Academy Tools Frame Fixture

It takes a lot of consideration, development, testing and and design work to create truly great products. It can also take a long time. In this case the process has taken longer than we had anticipated, much longer. But we weren't willing to compromise on the end product, so we got our heads down and put everything into making sure that we achieved the quality and functionality worthy of the Academy name. Just like everyone else who truly cares about what they produce. As far as we're concerned there's no point in doing anything unless it will be meaningfully better than what ever else exists. It's not about making a version on a theme, or just putting our name on something. We're working to move things forward....
